WASTE SEGREGATION Employees separate paper, cardboard, glass, and plastic into dedicated bins on each floor. Mess areas have additional bins for food waste, coffee pods, and aluminium cans. Collected waste is placed in colour-coded bags for scheduled pickup by GREEN (local company engaged in the collection and recycling of waste), which sorts, compacts, and sends materials to local or international recyclers. Monthly audits track volumes and performance. ORGANIC WASTE Uncontaminated food waste is collected and stored in a 300L freezer, then composted by BiobiN (Mauritius) Ltd. Since the installation of bins in April 2025, we have collected 107 kg of food waste and produced 53 kg of compost. This compost is then sold to customers. HAZARDOUS AND E-WASTE MANAGEMENT Batteries, used lamps, bulbs, and WEEE are safely collected and sent to BEM Recycling Ltd . COFFEE POD RECYCLING Used coffee pods are collected in partnership with Scott & Company Ltd. Coffee grounds are composted and used by local planters, while aluminium capsules are upcycled into artisanal products. A total of 16 kg of compost was produced during the year. MONITORING AND REPORTING Monthly data on all waste streams is shared with Cim Finance for better tracking and disclosure.
e-Waste 2,883 kg FY 2022/23: 2,870kg FY 2023/24: 2,224kg
Paper & carton at Archives 799 kg
FY 2022/23: 2,691kg FY 2023/24: 2,728kg
The reduction in coffee pod waste is primarily attributed to a decline in the number of pods purchased and consumed—from 2,580 units in 2022/23 to 1,640 units in 2024/25—reflecting more responsible consumption habits. The same reasoning applies to waste generated at our Archives in Riche-Terre, where a reduced amount of paper was purged compared to previous years.
